The Bonsai Difference

Studied On Cannabis. Built For Cannabis.

Most "cannabis" inoculants are crop-generic PGPR with a new label. Ours aren't. Every strain we use is validated in published PGPR and cannabis research — root colonization, bulking-phase biology, late-flower defense — with strain selection informed by studies on cannabis itself where the data exists.

The rhizosphere is where the real work happens — Bacillus subtilis ISR signaling, Trichoderma harzianum root colonization, B. megaterium IAA-auxin production, and P-solubilization that unlocks fertilizer your plant can actually use.

  • Six science-backed strains spanning Bacillus and Trichoderma
  • Proprietary 8-ingredient germination activator blend
  • Dry, vacuum-sealed pouches — designed for ambient storage
  • Dose targets grounded in published PGPR research
The Product Line

Three Stages. Three Formulas. One System.

Each pouch vacuum-sealed, dry, ready to mix into your reservoir or apply as foliar. Same pouch format. Same dosing. Different microbe blend for every growth phase.

TERP BOOST microbial pouch
Phase 3

TERP BOOST

Week 5 → Week 6 Flower

Six-strain late-flower formula built around T. harzianum and Bacillus species studied for their role in plant immunity and jasmonic-acid signaling — the same biochemical pathway plants use to produce terpenes. Designed to support that biology through the final weeks of flower.

  • Bacillus amyloliquefaciens
  • Bacillus licheniformis
  • Bacillus pumilus
  • Bacillus megaterium
Why TERP BOOST Supports The Finish
  • T. harzianum volatile organic compounds can trigger induced systemic resistance (ISR), activating the jasmonic-acid pathway that regulates terpene synthase expression (Hermosa et al.)
  • Six-strain consortium studied for roles in plant immunity, ISR signaling, and secondary-metabolite biology during flowering
  • Dry, shelf-stable format — no refrigeration, no cold-chain risk, 24+ month viability
  • Strain selection informed by published cannabis and PGPR research on flowering-stage plant biology (Lyu, Backer, Smith — Frontiers Microbiol 2019)

The Grow Roadmap

Your Plants Change Every Week. Your Microbes Should Too.

Follow the Bonsai Complete system from transplant to late flower. One pack per phase. No guesswork.

Transplant → Week 1 Flower

VEG BOOST +

Accelerate root development, colonize the rhizosphere, establish nutrient uptake. This is first contact — heaviest inoculation where it matters most.

Protocol Notes
  • Apply at first transplant to establish a robust root microbial community from day one
  • Re-apply weekly for 4 weeks through veg and into week 1 of flower for sustained colonization
  • 478B CFU per pouch — the highest microbial load in the lineup for maximum first-contact establishment
Week 2 → Week 4 Flower

BUD BOOST +

Internodal development, bud site formation, P-solubilization through the bulking phase. Strong plant health support during flowering.

Protocol Notes
  • Apply weekly during weeks 2–4 of flower — the bulking window where nutrient demand peaks
  • B. amyloliquefaciens lipopeptides trigger ISR — Induced Systemic Resistance, the plant's own health-support pathway
  • Strain ratios weighted for phosphorus-solubilization support during the bulking window when demand peaks
Week 5 → Week 6 Flower

TERP BOOST +

Late-flower plant biology support. Strain blend built around species studied for their role in the jasmonic-acid pathway — the signaling plants use to produce terpenes. Applied during the weeks when terpene development peaks.

Protocol Notes
  • Apply weeks 5–6 to support plant biology through the highest-stress window of late flower
  • Biocontrol-weighted ratios (T. harzianum + B. licheniformis + B. pumilus) for flowering-stage plant health
  • T. harzianum's ISR / jasmonic-acid activation is the same pathway plants use to produce terpenes — apply consistently through week 6 so the microbial community matures alongside terpene development

Formulated, Not Repackaged.

This market is the hardest it's been in a decade. Wholesale prices cut in half. Input costs climbing every quarter. Most "cannabis" products on the shelf are crop-generic PGPR with a new label — formulated somewhere else entirely, never validated on cannabis biology, sold by companies that have never flipped a plant in a real flower room.

Bonsai is the opposite. Every strain in every pouch was chosen from published research — cannabis studies where they exist, PGPR literature where the mechanism applies. Every dose is priced so real growers can actually afford to run it. Every formulation decision is made by a grower still in the rooms with you — not a marketing team, not a distributor, not someone who's never flipped a plant in their life.

Made in Canada. Made for this market. Made for the growers who built it.

Head To Head

The Old Way vs. The Bonsai Way

Cannabis microbial inoculants haven't changed in 15 years. We built the category's first legitimate upgrade.

The Old Way

  • Generic blends — same mix for every stage
  • Liquid products that lose potency after opening
  • Mostly carrier liquid — less biology per dose
  • CFU counts that vary over time
  • Strains not selected for cannabis-specific performance
  • Static recipes — never updated as new research emerges

The Bonsai Way

  • Phase-specific strains for veg, flower, and late bloom
  • Dry, vacuum-sealed pouches — designed for ambient storage
  • Built for cannabis biology from the ground up
  • Consistent CFU per application, every pouch
  • Strains chosen from published PGPR and cannabis research
  • Recipes evolve as the science evolves
The Science

Strains Chosen From Published Research.

Not marketing. Not anecdote. Real published data on Trichoderma harzianum and Bacillus spp. performance in cannabis cultivation.

Macro detail of cannabis trichomes — the biology behind the science
Published Research

Cannabis research. Not crop-generic.

We continuously track research-backed cannabis microbial research from the labs that actually study this plant — Punja (SFU), Backer (McGill), Frontiers in Plant Science, MDPI Plants, World Journal of Microbiology, and ongoing studies from active cannabis research groups. Every strain decision traces back to current published science, not marketing claims from 1995 — and our formulas update as new findings emerge.

Application Guide

One Pack. One Feed. Zero Guesswork.

Simple application across any grow style — soil drench or reservoir addition. One pouch treats 1,000L.

1

Pre-Mix

Pour pouch into 5–10L water at pH 6.4–6.6. Stir gently until fully dissolved.

2

Activate

Let sit 15–30 min. Our germination-activation chemistry wakes the spores so more live microbes hit the root zone.

3

Add Fertilizer

Add your fertilizer to the reservoir first, then pH-adjust the final water.

4

Apply

Add microbes last. Apply as soil drench, reservoir addition, or foliar (lights off).

Our Story

Passionate Growers. Built By Cultivators, Not Corporations.

Bonsai Nutrients was founded on the west coast of British Columbia, Canada — by craft growers, for craft growers. We're cultivators who got tired of watching the same companies sell repackaged generic blends at premium prices while growers did all the real work.

We built Bonsai for the growers chasing real terpene output, real resin quality, real flower density. Every formula was born in a grow room, tested on real plants, refined on real harvest results — built around cannabis biology, not marketing ambition.

Every Bonsai formula evolves with the science — peer-reviewed cannabis research, our own grow-room trials, new evidence as it emerges. You're not buying last year's science. You're buying this year's.
